DEPUTY DIRECTORS
Basil H. Collie is a retired Superintendent of the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) having served thirty-three (33) years of continuous, unblemished, and dedicated service to that noble organization. Positions held during his tenure with the RBPF includes Officer-in-Charge of the Tracing and Forfeiture/Money Laundering Investigation Section, Deputy Commander of the Drug Enforcement Unit, Deputy Commandant of the Police Training College, and Officer-in-Charge of the Nassau Street Police Station.
Mr. Collie currently holds the position of Deputy Director of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) having been reappointed by secondment from the Securities Commission of The Bahamas to fill this vacant post in December 2021. He initially served as Deputy Director in the FIU from October 2010 to September 2019. As Deputy Director Mr. Collie has the responsibility of assisting the Director with the statutory mandate of the Financial Intelligence Unit and the management and supervision of thirty-six (36) employees, consisting of managers and line staff. In November of 2015, he was appointed by the then Director to head the Financial Intelligence Unit’s team during the mutual evaluation of The Bahamas.
In his role as a Senior Officer in the Drug Enforcement Unit, and as Deputy Director of the FIU, Mr. Collie attended numerous meetings, both locally and internationally, and dedicated his efforts to ensuring that The Bahamas was compliant with the Financial Action Task Force’s (FATF) 40 recommendations. He has held various leadership positions, including performing duties as Regional Representative for the Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units (FIUs) and as Chairman of the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF) Heads of Financial Intelligence Units.
Mr. Basil H. Collie is an Accredited Financial Investigator (AFI) having obtained this designation from the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force/European Union sponsored, Caribbean Anti-Money Laundering Programme (CALP). He has also successfully completed the International Compliance Association (ICA) Certification in Anti-money Laundering, and Governance, Risk & Compliance, and is also an Associate Member of The Bahamas Association of Compliance Officers (BACO).
In his continued quest to offer selfless service to The Bahamas, and by extension the world, he has embodied the Mission Statement of the FIU, which states – “To proactively network with law enforcement, regulators and international counterparts to effectively assist in detecting, assessing and eradicating all threats of money laundering and financing of terrorism to the global economy”.
